Casting Repair & UpgradePoor valve castings are dangerous and unacceptable in any service, particularly in critical applications such as Hydrogen or HF Alkylation. United Valve has the experience and expertise to upgrade or repair valve castings to meet any customer specification. The process begins in our in-house X-ray radiography facility, which can rapidly determine the quality level of a valve casting. After defects have been located and identified, ASME code certified welders gouge out the bad areas, replacing them with new, sound weld metal. After welding, the casting is placed into one of four heat treatment furnaces, each capable of stress relieving plain carbon steel and low alloy castings. Following stress relief and hardness testing, the casting is radiographed again to confirm that all unacceptable defects have been eliminated. After the radiographic film has been interpreted by an ASNT Level II technician, utilizing ASTM reference radiographs, the valve is reassembled and tested per API 598. All operations are performed in our facility and are under the supervision of our engineering and management team. In addition to general casting repairs we perform ANSI B16.34 “special class” upgrades of valves. The upgrade requires radiography of several “critical areas” as well as additional NDE procedures performed on the surface of the castings. After successful upgrading, BWE valves receive a higher pressure temperature rating in accordance with B16.34, table 2-1.1. |
